Over the last two years Subsea Corrosion Ltd has been involved in the replacement of ICCP anodes and reference electrodes onboard an operational FPSO located in the UK North Sea.
Initially, this consisted of a system review, leading to a site inspection and testing visit to determine the extent of the system’s operation and likely level of replacement parts.
This lead to confirmation that all of the ICCP anodes and reference electrodes required replacement.
As previously mentioned in our December 2021 Blog, a single anode and a reference electrode was replaced to establish the complexity of the installation tasks and the resources required (including confirmation that retrofit would work!!). Upon completion, the anode and electrode were re-connected, the transformer rectifier was re-energised and the system was partially commissioned and left operational until the 2022 campaign.
The remaining faulty anodes and reference electrodes were replaced in June 2022 and the ICCP system was commissioned and made fully operational. This method provided significant cost savings to our Client.
Kevin Paterson, Director at Subsea Corrosion Ltd said, “This is another significant achievement for both Subsea Corrosion Ltd and our Client, whereby the existing ICCP system could be repaired whilst still on-station. This allowed the vessel to operate whilst the retrofit was carried out, with no shutdowns or dry-docking.”
